THROUGH CARGOES
INCREASE.
The freight returns during the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. yesterday. showed that the amount of general merchandise entering into Colony was below the average. Cargoes for perta beyond, however, had considerably increased.

The Colony's importa amuunted to 7,173 ton of general cargo, of which, 3,220 tons were discharged from British vessels..
Through cargoce were manifested on ten steamers The total amonas carried was 28,331 tans. Of these, 18,819 tons · were On British steamers.
The two best returna were 10,200 toas on the s. Alaska Maru, from Antwerp and Singapore, and 6,500 tons on the British steamer Kalyan, from Vladivostock and Shanghai.
During the period under review, there ware 19 arrivals and 18 departures: Their
nationalities were:-British, 6 arrivals and 11 departures; Japanese, 3 arrivals; Norwegian, 2 arrivals and 1 depar- turs; Chinese, 4 arrivals and 1 de- parture; Dutch, I arrival and 1 departure; French, 2 arrivals and 1 departure; German, 1 arrival.
Vessels in port totalled 75, of which, were British.
SHIPPING NOTES:
The P. & O. &. Delta arrived in port yesterday from Japan and Shanghai, and sailed again yesterday afternoon for Straits ports and Bombay. In addition to a good freight return, the vessel brought Flome and Europe mail via Sikeria, and had on board twelve first class passengers, and a aumber of children.
Another P. & O. arrival yester day was the s... Kalyan from Shang- hai, which sails to-day at noen for Lardon. The Kalyan brought 33 Arst-class passengers, 29 second- class passengers and a number of children, making about 70 passen- gers in all. Sixteen passengers dis- embarked here. The remainder were mostly for Marseilles and London.
A cargo boat was swamped on Thursday at daylight, when in the vicinity of the Kau Sing buoy, the wind and weather being boisterous At the time. The cargo floated away, but the crew were able to right the vessel and balo her out, after which she returned to the junk anchorage without damage.
The Empress of data, which left Yokohama yesterday at p.., is due at Hong Kong on the 24th inst.
One case of beri-beri was reported on board the 8.8. Kalyan, from Vladivostock and Shanghai. The patient was isolated.
The ss. Huichow, "which came into port yesterday from Tientsin and Weihaiwei passed a derelict junk in position 220 48′ N, 118° 21 E, which is considered danger. ous to Navigation.
"En route from Shanghai and Amoy, the x. Ichang encountered very bad monsoon weather, and had to anchor for 5 hours.
