the British Government became British Agent at Ancona and rendered important services in such capacity;
That his official capacity as British Agent was considered a sufficient cause for having his entire property confiscated by the French Republic, and the said Alexr Comelate was an extensive merchant, it amounted to a very large sum, as will be seen by different documents which accompany this Memorial.
That besides the floating capital in his business, the furniture of his house was sold, and his paintings, his private gallery, many of them of great value in the opinion of the late Sir William Hamilton, were carried into France. His land property, country house, and other fixed property were also disposed of.
And most part of the proceeds were remitted to the said Alexr Comelate, nor did he, nor his family receive any compensation for such loss.
That in his official capacity, the said Alexr Comelate had frequent and confidential intercourse with Sir William Hamilton, British Ambassador at the Court of Naples, with Lord Minto at the Court of Turin, and also with the illustrious Nelson, who honoured him with his protection and friendship.
