Hong Kong 209

13 July 1850.

I am directed by Earl Grey to acknowledge the receipt of your Letter of the 2 instant forwarding a Memorial from Mr. Cornetlé praying that, in consideration of his past and former services, he may be allowed to retain the value of their Certificates of Rstemmiting.

9.101 9/7/50

I am afraid that I am without the means of procuring employment for him in this Colony, and can only express my regret that I am unable to comply with his request.

This is an application to be transferred from Hong Kong to a more genial climate. Vide 5654.

Though suffering from the effects of a tropical climate, he appears to be capable of doing several duties here. He sets up claims for compensation for his alleged losses, whilst serving in Hong Kong.

We have been very glad to have had the benefit of his services here, and should be sorry to lose him, but it is not in our power to comply with his request.

There is no possibility of his being transferred from Hong Kong, which does not agree with him, to a more temperate climate, as it is not possible to offer him employment elsewhere.
