SHANGHAI MURDER, CASE.
At the Shanghai District Court on Wednesday, a Chinese was sentenced to life imprisonment for being concerned as reported in our issue of yesterday in the kidnapping of Ping Wen Yung, a The Markham Read coal merchant. latter was shot dead for failing to. produce a huge sum which was demanded for his ransom.
Talk of a New Will. Barnes, he said. was in the babit of taking out with him a bag in which was a small pouch, and in this be carried eggs. In 1918 Ernest, one of the sens, died, leaving a widow and four children.HONG KONG STOCK EXCHANGE.
In who were some of the interveners. October, 1920, he had a bad heart attack, and on October 27th he made a will, by which he bequeathed to "his wife £400, watches and trinkets, a house for life, and an annuity of £62. He gave his son William £100 and Robert two chairs, and divided the residue of his estate, half to Robert and half to the children of Ernest.
In August, 1991, said Mr. Bayford. he bought the bungalow at Allport-lane, and he and his wife went to live there in Oe- tuber. From time to time he expressed to his wife his intentions of making a new will, and on one occasion he said he had done so.
On October 15th, 1995, Mrs. Barnes was clearing out her late husband's bedroom, and on the top of the wardrobe, in a wel between two partitions, she found the egg shell will and a piece of paper, partly burnt.
Widow's Story.
Mrs. Margaret Barnes, the widow, said her husband used to take raw eggs, which he cooked on board ship. In April, 1923, while at Llandudno, her husband told her that he had made a codici! and had left her everything.
On the Sunday following his death, she said, one of his sons searched the safe, and on the following day the will was read. Later, said Mrs. Barnes, she saw some solicitors and on her instructions a caveat was entered.
