YESTERDAY'S FREIGHTS BELOW AVERAGE.
General merchandise imported into the Colony and freights for ports: beyand continued to be below the usual averago sa shown by the returns made to the Harbour Office during the 24 hours ended at û a.m. yesterday,
Qut of 10 vessels entered into port dur- ing the period under review, freights for Hong Kong were manifested on 13 vessels. The total amount of general cargo discharged here was 7,703 tons, of which, 3,275 tops were 03 British
steamers.
The two best returns were registered by the ss. Prominent (Norwegian), which brought 2,970 tons from Saigon, and the British vessel Aungehow, from Bangkok, contributed 1,725 to
Freights for porta beyond Hong Kong were carried by e vessels out of the 19 arrivals. Although the tonnage carried was within the five figure margin, the amount was below the usual average. There were 19,797 tons manifested, of which, 1,845 tons were on three British Ateamers.
The two best roturna were shown by the Andes Maru from Kobe and Shanghai, and the Uga Maru, from Yokohama and Moji. The former vessel had 8,327 tons and the latter 3,649 tons
HARBOUR COLLISION BETWEEN
· LAUNCHES.-
MARINE COURT HOLDS THE *GRETCHEN” TO BLAME.
Yesterday morning at the Marine Court, before Lt.-Comdr. G. F. Hole, RN., an enquiry was held into the collision of two dil Companies launches the Gretchen belonging to the Asiatic Petroleum Oil Co., and the Standard Oil Co.'s launch Standard.
The collision, occurred in the harbour early in the morning on Wednesday, the Gretchen being struck on the starboard side just in front of the wheel, and badly damaged. She sank almost im- mediately near the Yaumati Typhoon Shelter in about 4 fathoms of water. the fog at the time of the mishap had Evidence was given to the effect that lifted to large extent, and the two launches had a fairly clear view of the one another.

SHIPPING NOTES.
The total number of deck passengers entered into the Colony during the, 24 bours ended at a.m. yesterday was 800, of which, the Douglas .. Hai Ning brought 207 from Foochow and Swatow.
The Japanese vessel Uga Maru, which came into port yesterday from Yokohama and Moji, brought__150 tons of safety matches for Hong Kong. She also can ried 50 cases of Sulphuric acid and 493 tons of safety matches for ports beyond.
The master of the Blue Funnel launch Hermes was fined five dollars or five days' hard labour yesterday morning at the Marine Court, before Lt-Comdr. G. F. Hole, R.N., for failing to observe the rules of the fairway.
The Norwegian steamer Hirundo arrived into port yesterday from Bang- kok and Swatow with 1,100 tons of general cargo for local discharge.
Borealis from Tarakan, the 2.3. (British) brought 5,387 tons of liquid fuel into the Colony yesterday.
The Indo-China 1.5. Mau. Sang from Sandakan discharged 3,000 tons of Tim, ber and general cargo here yesterday.
Arriving from Fort Bayard yesterday the s.8. Hydrangea (British) brought 11 tons of general merchandise into the Colony and 204 deck passengers.
The .. Aki Maru arrived yesterday from Australian ports and Manila. She brought general cargo and mail, and had a7 passengers on board. Of this number 5 disembarked at Hong Kong, of which six were first class, viz., four British, one Hebrew and one Chiness. There were 46 second class passengers for this. port, of whom one, was Japanese, one British, 43 Chinese and. one Russian There were 43 passengers for Japanese ports, viz., seven first class, two second class, seven intermediate class and 27 third class.
The Uga Maru arriving yesterday from Moji with general cargo, reports having encountered rough seas at Genkai Nada and that on Wednesday the weather wai very hazy,
For the first time for many months the number of Japanese ocean going vessel in the Harbour at 9 am yesterday rAQ into double figures. There were eleven vessels lying the Japanese flag and on Wednesday, ten Japanese vessels entered port, and left. Yesterday morning's re- turn, included 14 Chinese and 28 British vessels.
