of St. Vincent de Paul-the al fresco fate and the Ross Day-have netted over 820,000 for the Society's good work among' the poor of the Colony for the coming

THE POET-LAUREATE 82.
Dr. Robert Bridges was 82 last month, says the Evening Standard, and it is unlikely that he will now do anything to alter his reputation of being "the least- known Poet Laureate," His muse is, however, still fairly active, and à now volume of verse appeared last year, which showed that he had not shed his idiosyn- crasies in matters of punctuation and abbreviation. This volume was violently attacked by one critics as pedantis balderdash, if feeble and flat
