I have the honor respectfully to request that you will lay before His Lordship this my application for a further extension of six months' leave of absence from Hong Kong on account of my state of health, as will be seen by the accompanying Medical Certificates.
Since my arrival in England last April, up to November, I made no apparent progress towards recovery, although under the most experienced practitioners. I have since then been gradually improving and have now been permitted to remain in Europe until next summer to escape the effects of the next tropical climate, which in my present state I am afraid I could not encounter without great danger.
