totalled 3,473, tons, out of which 1,079 tons were carried by British vessels. The Ebest return was 1,145 tons brought in by

a Dutch steamer.

SHIPPING MOVEMENTS.

The R. M.S. Empress of Russia arrived at Kobe' yesterday at 5.30 am and was

due to leave at 5p.m. She is expected at Yokohama to-morrow.

The .. Preussen (Hamburg-Amerika Line) left Singapore on the afternoon of the 15th inst., and is expected to arrive here on the 21st inst. at daylight. She is scheduled to sail on the following day from here for Shanghai and Japan.

The P. & O. Co.'s a. Khita leit Singa- pore for this port on the 18th inst. at 4 p.m., and is due here on the 22nd inst.,

at about 5 am.

BHIPPING NOTES.

A mistress of a cargo junk was fined 31 or 1 day's imprisonment, at the Marine Court, yesterday morning, before Lieut. Comdr. G. F. Hole, R.N., for mooring alongside the as Aucichow breast of five other junka, For failing to report to H.M...Station his arrival at Tai O, the master of a junk was fined $10, or ten days' hard labour in default.

The total number of deck, pässengers entered during the 24 hours ended at 9 am. yesterday was 1,854, out of which the Java-China-Japan Line's vessel, Fan Olson, brought. 1,125.”.
