Of the players, Pearce's knock stood out, together with Barrett's. The former played a grand game, giving no chance, and the only bad shat he made was an uppish one in the direction of extra- cover. His leg hitting was very fine. Barrett gave no chance either and he was acidem beaten. Hongkong apart from Pearce were poor, and but for his hold- ing the side together would probably have been out for under seventy. Morris played a most useful innings but it must be admitted that he was very lucky. Lightfoot also got twenty-nine invaluable runs, and did not seem to give a chance, but he was thoroughly uncomfortable. He is, of course, batting on a wicket which is quite strange to him and he is handicapped by a short reach Leach looked very sound, and very unlikely to get out, until a remarkably fine ball got past his defence.

nurses in the Royal Northern Hospital, Holloway Road, N., were re cently quarantined in one ward as the result of the discovery in the hospital of a case of small-pox... They were attend- ing patients in the ward where the dis- covery was made.

The hospital itself was isolated. Visit ing was not allowed, and the nursing stiff's leave was stopped. Nurses, also, were not allowed to write letters.
The entire hospital staff, numbering about 150, was vaccinated, as well as about 200 people who may have come into contact with members of the staff who visited the affected ward.
The patient was in Paris recently, and is believed that she was infected there..
Two weeks ago two South African visitors, a husband and wife, developed small-pox while staying at a West End hotel. The husband wis infected in Paris. The woman died, and subsc- quently a servant at the hotel developed the disease and died.
