The collection of Japanese water colours
make a wonderful exhibition on their own The ablest Japanese painters are repre- serted. Most of the pictures are nature studies, wonderfully and truly coloured even to the tints of leaves, the glint of -surilght-filtering-through the trees, the "varying buen of light and shade on
streams.

He has other pictures, har bour scenes, and other rural scenes. In one harbour scene he seems to have been influenced by Dutch painted.

Cherbourg, the main port which deals with the American tourist traffic, has found it necessary to increase the tolls levied on foreigners. The Chamber of Commerce, acting on authority obtained from the Government, has doubled the tolls, which benceforth are fixed at 100f., 601, 201, and 101, according to the status of the tourist..
