As already reported the employees in the Kwangtung Arsenal at Shekebeng, pear. Canton, wore dismissed, or rather locked out, by the Kuomintang General Headquarters without notice on October 28th. Some 2,000 workers are concerned and their appeal for re-instatement has so far received no acknowledgment.

Some of the merchants in Shiukwan, Northern Kwangtung, are offering them selves for imprisonment in order to escape the continual demands of the militarists that they shall pay cash for war bonds. It is likely, according to report, that the officers of the Chamber of Commerce will he imprisoned because according to the militarists they have been most obstinate in their refusal to help the Northern Ex- pedition Eo fur, it is said, they have contributed less than $130,000 and are now acting as if they had been unmerci fully oppressed.
Houses Burned.
The village of Hoichow, Heungshan, has been partly destroyed by order of General Chien To Chun, Garrison Com zmissioner of Canton. More than 60 houses were burned down and nearly 20 of the village elders ärrested. The rea son given for these measures is that. General Ngai Bong Ping, the new chief of the anti-Red movement in Kwangtung, is a native of this village and that some members of his family have joined the anti-Bolshevik movement.

On October 30th, some 8,000 members of the labour "volunteer corps," repre- senting details from every labour union affiliated with the Kuomintang Workers' Delegate Conference, paraded on the Eastern Parade Ground, for the ceremony of flag presentation. The, Kuomintang conferred the red standard of the party on the corps. The 8,000 "volunteers for the defence. of labour were unarmed. When not called to the active service of the Kuomintang, the volunteers act as pickets to maintain union rules and defend the interest of labour in dealing with the capitalists."
