The killed engineer on the ather hand gets 58/6 for a 47 hour week in comparison with 38/11 in 1014 for a 34 hour week. The dustman in Glasgow draws G1 per week, in Shoreditch 70 per week and in, Bethnal Green T3/- per week. The bewer of coal, who is the most, highly paid of all the miners receives, ccording to the Coal Commissions Re- port, something over 761 per week on an average. The lowest adult mining wage in Lancashire is 45/- in a six day week and in Yorkshire B2/6. The report shows that the miner generally has fared worse than men engaged in home trades though better than mun in export trades, although it must be remembered, of course, that the miner gets his coal and bis house, such as it is, free.

The facts of the case, therefore, prove that the claims of the miner are net altogether; unreasonable. On the other hand the mine owner has to face facts as well and the chief ons is that present conditions do not enable him to earn profits. He seeks the ordinary palliative and immediate remedy of reduced wages

After the alleged murderer bad been secured to a stanchion by Indian guards, serious trouble" broke out among the remainder of the deportees, who adoped muntipoua conduct in 'their quarters. THE MINERS' CASE. THE coal deadlock still continues, in spite of the efforts that are being made continuously to come to some amicable arrangements. Although there was little sympathy with those who took part in the General Strike which was regarded as a direct assault upon the Constitu tion, there is still a fair amount of support among thoughtful people for the miners.
