Of the cargo for Hongkong, British vessels brought 9,448 tons, of which one ateamer brought 6,500 tons of sugar and another 1,681 tons of general cargo. The remaining 2,324 tons were brought by vessels of other nationalities, the best return being 1,081 tons With regard to freight for ports beyond, there were only three entries, these being 4,734 tons in British steamer, 2,231 tons in a Japanese vessel, and 2,171 tons in an American steamer.

The Peninsular and Oriental liner Kashgar arrived yesterday at daylight from Home vid Singapore with passen- gers and mails and a fair amount of cargo. She had a fair S. W. monsoon all the way on her passage up here from Singapore and went her usual way be tween the Paracel Islands and the Macclesfield Bank.

Another arrival yesterday at No. 5 of the Kowloon wharves was the Dollar liner President Pierce from Sar

weather from Shanghai down. She had a full complement of passengers and also full cargo from America to Shang- hai. However, a great part of her cargo was discharged at Shanghai and nearly 150 passengers went ashore there as well. They consisted mostly of American busi ness men and quite a number of American naval officers bound for the Yangtze patrol.
Captain H. G. Jaunary is now hack on the President Pierce after his vaca- tion, during which time Captain A. F. Anderson took his place. Captain Ar- anderson has already been transferred to the, Dollar around-the-world liner President Hayes. Mr. B. A.
