RECEIVED

MAY 31

1850

Treasury Chambers 30th May 1850

With reference to the subject of your Communications of the 12th and 29th Ultimo, I have it in command to acquaint you,

that as for the information of Earl Grey,

the formation of the Road to which they relate had been undertaken by proper Authority, and as the sum which has been demanded by the Chinese Contractor does not appear to have exceeded the reasonable value of the Work he had executed, the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury will not withhold their Assent for the Payment of the further sum of

One hundred Pounds, sixteen Shillings and eight pence from the Colonial Treasury

Herman Merivale Esqr.
