It seems not impossible that a mixture, of power alcohol and kerosine would be serviceable and also economical.
When we reflect upon the enormous quantity of fuel that is used in cars nowa days, we realise that any research work that will lead to economy will benefit the motor-car industry. In these democratic days we hope to see notoring brought within the reach of the family of very moderate means.
CHEAPER CARS.
Any movement which has for its object the production of a better car at the old price or of the same car at a lower price will be welcomed by local motorists. »

A paper was read recently in London which describe the experiments carried out by the London General Omnibus Co., both in the workshop, and on the road.
It may be explained that Mr. Ricardo bas an ingenious single-cylinder engine in which the compression can easily be varied.
As far back as a quarter of a century ago it was proved by Professor Burstali that high compressions were desirable for internal combustion enginer.
We may be sure of the whole hearted support of missionaries. They realise that quick methods of communication help. them in their work.
Everybody praises the Rockefeller Foundation in Chins for the splendid medical work carried on in its pane. Strange it is, however, that although Mr. Rockefeller made a huge fortune out of oil. he has, as far as we are aware, done nothing in the way of endowments that will help road-construction in China.
But it is not yet too late. Roads are badly needed, even if waterways are efficient and offer the time honoured 'methods of transport,

Last year 104 of these cars were sold in Hongkong. When the first one appeared in the Colony some years ago, owners of big cars gave a smile. Since then even the owners of big cars have had to thick about economy, and especially petrol con- sumption and wear and tear of tyres.
There are now so many Austin Sevens in Hongkong that there must be good reasons for their popularity.
In the first place the price, £169, is enticing. Then the petrol cofisumption of 43 miles to the gallon means that it does not. cost very much to run.
The garage problem is another point. it is possible to make arrangements for the accommodation of an Austin Seven in a space that is pasily provided eyen bhis island which has such limited level ground
