HONGKONG SHIPPING. -FAIR-AVERAGE MAINTAINED.

Although" tonnage showed a slight de crease, compared with the previous day, the total freight entered was practically the same 43 on the previous day. Freight for prota beyond, howevar, in- creased but that for Hongkong showed a decrease of four thousand tons. The

tonnage figures were:-Total: 39,000 tons (British, 19,300 tons; other nationalists, 13,136 tons.

Ata.m. yesterday there were $8 vessels in the harbour, of which 25 were British. During the previous twenty- four hours thirteen vessels arrived, vi, six British, one Dutch, one Norwegian, two Japanese and three Chinese. The departured during the. aama period. came to 10, vis, one Japanese for Manila, one Chinese for Sha U Cheung, ond French for Saigon, three British for Shanghai, one Chinese for Hauhoi, one Dutch for Singapore, one British for Kobo and one British for Haiphong. Clearances came to three, ti, one Bri- tish for Shanghai, one Chinese for Kwang Chow Wan and one. British far Quinhon.

Silver Cedar British freigher of 1,585 tons, which is circling the world, went aground near Matru yama on the Shikonu coast on the mor- ning of August 9th. The vessel was on her way to Shanghai ‘rid Dairen from Kobe, where she unloaded cotton fram New York. She was loaded, besides with resin and other miscellaneous goods. The damage was not believed to, be serions. Japanese ships rushed to rescue. the stranded vessel, but unfavourable weather hampered them."

The total number of deck passengers entered for the twenty-four hours ended. at 9 am yesterday was 588, of which. the Tjimanceck (Dutch) Trom Delay and Amoy carried 201, and the ss. Tango Maru (Japanese) from Melbourne, and Manila 150.
