HONGKONG SHIPPING,

TAE HONGKONG DAILY PRESS, TUESDAY. AUGUST 10r,” 192€"

A RECORD DAILY STATEMENT.

ONLY FOUR ENTRIES.

Yesterday's shipping statement was o record one in more than one 'respect. First, there were only four vessels shown as as having arrived during the twenty- four hours ended at 9 a.m., and although four arrivals were recorded: in fact, there were only two vessels. to come in. These were Chinese boats engaged on short trips between Hongkong and Nam Tau and Hongkong and Sha U Chang, but as they managed to put in two trips in the twenty-four hours, this cecessitated two separate entries for each boat, thus making up four arrivals. Secondly, the tonnage figures and cargo returns have not reached so low an ebb for a long period.

The Actual tonnage figures came to 536, but it must be remembered that this ap plies to the four entries, so that actually the figures would be only half. There was no freight for ports beyond Eong- kong, and the enrgo for, this port only amounted to 11 tons and four picuis, against S9 tons for Hongkong the previous day.

At 9. yesterday there were vessels in the harbour, of which 10 were British. During the previous twenty. four hours there were four arrivals, as stated, and all Chinese. The departures over the saine period came to seven, ribne British for Bangkok, one Ame Puit for Shanghai, two British fo Singapore, one Chinese for Hau Hoi, one Norwegian for Bataria and one Chinese for Sha U Chung. There was only one clearance. this being a British steamer for Singapore.
