Confirmation of the transfer of the eight Shipping Board freighters com- prising the American Far East Line to Swayne and Hoyt, has been received in Manila by Messrs. L. Everett, Inc., who represent Struthers and Barry in Manila. The freighters are the West Chapaka, West Faralan, West Cajont, West Sequana, West Prospect, West Ivan, West Carmona and the Elkridge. The Feat Cajont, which is scheduled to leave San Francisco for Manila on August 9th, will be the last of the eight freigh tera to be operated by Struthers and Barry All-of-the ships reaching an Francisco after that late, will make their next trip under the operation of Swayne and Hoyt.

Struthers and Barry, however, will continue to run the four Shipping Board tankers. These tankers will be the only ships operated on the Pacific run by that Arm. They are the Menton, the Stock- tos, the Dilworth and the Salina.

Swayne and Hoyt are considered to be one of the strongest shipping firms on the Pacific coast. At the present time the firm operates seven Shipping Board freighters on the Pacife Australia run. The American Far East Line, operated. by Struthers and Barry, when in the

In addition to these two lines, the Swayne and Hoyt organization are operating American boats from the

Western Pacific coast to South America and the transfer of the American Far East Line to their control, will make them one of the largest operators of ships out of the Pacific coast.

Shipping Board officials explained the transfer on the grounds that Swayne and Hoyt demonstrated greater efficiency and economy on the Australian run, than Struthers and Barry in the operation of the service in the Orient. However it is believed that Mr. T. V. O'Connor, Chair- man of the Shipping Board, merely followed out the policy established by

Admiral Palmer, who was bend of the

Emergency Fleet Corporation in 1994- 1925, in combining lines to reduce ex- penditure in operation.

Struthers and Barry protested the transfer insisting that they could de monstrate the error in the reasons given for the transfer to Swayze and Hort..
