FROM NEXT WEEK. Flans for the improvement of the dwindling water supplies for the Peak and Western districts are going on apate and the Water Authority is guine that a fair supply will be forthcoming in the course of a week or thereabouts. The greatest difficulty to be encountered is in regard to the supply for the Peak and high levelą,

Trams, as stated yesterday, are running to Whitty Street, and it is hoped that by to-day or to-morrow to run a complete service from Causeway Bay to Kennedy Town, as by then the debris, which has been blocking the road and track, due to the bursting of a nullah there, will have been cleared.

With regard to the Shaukiwan route, however, it will not be possible to run a service from Causeway Bay to Shankawan for several weeks. Trams are at present only able to run from Causeway Bay to Quarry Bay, but beyond that progress is impossible, owing to the blocking of the road by the big landslide outside the Taikoo Sagar Refinery. This landslide, which caused the death of two coolies, Number two engine was being over covered the tram lines for some feet, and hauled before the accident occurred, and it will take a considerable time and a large amount of labour to clear this bar the spare parts were in a workamer away. Therefore, at present, not a drop of water goes up to the Peak Away is being bored underneath the boulder, in order to connect the main. Then the pump can be used. The water supply will, however, be restricted for a long time, as this pump Eas only a quarter of the original capacity of the station.

An endeavour is also being made to get the second pump into rommission, but this will take some time awing to the destruction of the spare parts..

The quarter supply for the Peak will be ready in about a week,

GOLF COURSES DAMAGED,

HAPPY VALLEY, A QUAGMIRE.

As with most sports grounds, the golf courses have been considerably damaged. The Happy Valley course naturally suffered tremendously, especially the 2nd and 8th greens. In consequence of the bad condition of the course, the August Summer Meeting, for which an excellent programme was announced last week, has been cancelled. It also had to be can- celled last year owing to flood,

At Deep Water Bay the links there suffered considerable amount of dam- age within a limited area. The damage to the course is estimated to be about $1,000.
