With three more arrivals than during the previous twenty-four hours, yester day's shipping statement an increase with respect to Hongkong cargo, the increase being nearly 5,000 tons. Freight for perts beyond, how. ever, had gone down by well over 2,000

Several vessels due in port in time" for yesterday's shipping returns, did not arrive until later in the day. owing to the bad weather outside especially during the early hours of yesterday morning, which materially de layed the arrival of all Among these were the R.M.S. Empress of Russia and the fri Mri Maru.

At 9am. yesterday there were 42 vesels in the harbour, of which were British. During the previous twenty- four hours seven vessels arrived, vi, two British, one American and four Chinese. The departures during the same period came to five, viz., one French or Haiphong, one American-for-Shang hai, one Cainese for Sha U Chung, one, Chinese for Hauhot and one Japanese for Swatuw.
