A film called The Tragedy of the Hampshire," talling the story so far as it can be told in pictures ten years after" the event of Kitchener's death, was exhibited last month at the London Opera House to a large audience. The gathering was unlike any trade show that one has attended. Ancouncementi de-
5 great mass meeting Blared it to be held to support what was called a "na- tional movement" for the publication of the report of the court of inquiry into the wreck of the Hampshire. The people present were naked to sign a statement expressing the conviction that in view of the new evidence brought before the public by Mr. Frank Power the report should be published, and a further public inquiry held. Nearly 2,000 persons ALLEGATIONS. signed this petition.

alang. The Admiralty had stated ia Parliament that everything had been told, but Mr. Power denied that this was true. He had 200 witnesses who had given bim statements in black and white. If the Admiralty would publish everything fact that everything had not been pub there would be an end of it all. But the lished showed there was something to
face. hide which the Admiralty were afraid to
..
Mr Power went on to assert that-no exceptional or ordinary precautions were undertaken to ensure safety to Kitchener in the special circumstances, and that the Hampshire was an unsuitable and. even dangerous ship in which to send Kitchener on such an important mission. It was known that the vessel had an ugly record, and that spies had previously been found on her (A letter was thrown on the screen stating that spies had been found at some earlier date and that "two men were shot in barracks.") Mr. Pover said he had been pursuing his investigations for three or four years One of his wildest statements was that the British fleet remained inactive in Scapa Flow while Kitchener was going to his death..
GLIMPSES OF KITCHENER.
The film was an interesting one in Itself, but naturally had little bearing upon this series of accusations. It con- tained some glimpses of Kitchener in war-time und excellent photographs of the Orkneys and the wild, precipitous: coast around Marwick Head off which the Hampshire sank. The pictures of the cliffa suggested that the men who were wrecked in rough weather-would have very little chance of reaching the shore alive, and one felt that it was re- markable that there were so many sur- vivars. The captions" on some of the pictures seemed to be designed to streng- then the enggestion that the efforts at rescue were not what they should have been. One photograph showed a sort of gully between high cliffs. A raft with dead men from the Hampshire in it was found lodged there, and Mr. Power, speaking after the film had been shown, related that people on the top of the cliffs heard these sailors talking, but had no lines with which to attempt to rescue them. He said that this was one of the things that ought to be inquired into. Afterwards about half a dozen of the sur vivors of the Fampshire appeared on the platform, and were cheered.
At the end Mr. Power naked the audience to vote for a resolution demand- ing an inquiry. He said that it was passed unanimously, but a man in the meeting got up and said that the vote was not unanimous. By this time, the meeting had been worked up to an emo tional pitch, and there were loud cries" of Traitor" and "Throw him out." The audience no doubt contained some film experts interested in the technicals eide of the enterprise, but it seemed to be chiefly composed of people who are sympathetic to the idea that there is some undivulged mystery in the story of Kitchener's death. It included repre- sentatives of some of the Dominions and -Berersi-members of Parliamen
