Yesterday's shipping statement show. ed an all round decrease in the cargo brought to this port, compared with heart despite the fact that three more the gures for the previous twenty-four- vessele arrived than during the previous period. There was a total decrease re- cordel of 8,210 tons. Hongkong cargo dropped by 3,083 tons and freight for porte beyond by 4,587 tons.

The number of vessels in the harbour uta.m. yesterday Wil 55, of which 7 were British. During the pre- visui 24 hours twelve vessels' arrived, vi:.-hres British, one French, American, one German, two Japanese and bur Chinese. The departures dur- ing the same period came to eleven, viz.-- uns Tritish for Amey, one Chinese for Hauhe, two British for Haiphong, one British and one French for Kwang Chow Wan, one American for Manila, ono British and one Japanese for Swatow and one British and one Danish for Sbaughs. There was only one clearance, this being a British steamer for Shang-

hai.

A notice to mariners has been issued by the Foochow Customs. Authorities with regard to Conservancy Works in the Mia River between Kiu Gi and Pektao. This notice, which appears in the local Harbour Ofice, states that the construction of training, works in broken stone, in the above natned stretch of the river is now in progress and that, con- atituting a menace to navigators they will be marked as follows:-Lien Po Spur Dike, which is being built out in a northerly direction from the south shore of Siu Gi Point near Lien Po, will be marked at the outer end by a campan carrying a red flag, by day and a single red light at night. The sainpan will be roplaced at a later date by n; black Beacon carrying at night a single red light. On no account, is a vessel to at- tempt passing between the sampan, or Beacon, and the south shore.
