A notice to mariners, issued by the Commissioner of Customs at Tientsin, under date of May and, states that work is about to le commenced on dyke construction along the line of the New Taka Bar Channel. The work will be confined to the South Flat and when conditions permit, night work will be undertaken, necessitating the use of powerful lights. licence.

At the same Court, the master of a trading junk was charged with failing to report his arrival at Tai O Harbour Master's Office He pleaded guilty, and was fined 810, or ten days' hard labour in default. (This case concerned the "junk that was mentioned in proceedings at the Marine Court on Monday. The man then charged proved that he was not the master of the junk, but was on board simply in connection with the cargo).

Of the cargo for Hongkong. 1,324 tons was brought in British vessels, one steamer having 1,171 tons. The retain ing 3,007 tons were in vessels of other nationalities, with 1,000 tons the largest amount carried. There were only two entries of freight for other ports, these being 4,415 tons and 1,800 tons.
