The Columbia Pacific Shipping Co., one of the largest shipping Brins on the American Pacific coast and doing heavy cargo business with Japan, China and the Philippines, is opening its own office Manila from July 1st, according to announcement made yesterday by Mr. E. W. Latie, who will be Manila anager for the organisation. The Columbia agency has been directed herr for some years By Welch-Fairchild, Ltd., and has obtained a fair share of the cargo offerings to China, Japan and American ports. The office, in charge of Mr. Latic. will be situated in Room No. 306, Pacific Building.
Mr. Patie, the new manager for the Columbia Pacific Company in the Philip pines, is well-known to Manila shipping out business men dae to his frequent trips to the islands. For overal years he was associated with the Admiral Lane in Japan, first at Yokohama and then in Kobe. The Columbia Parise Company is making a strong bid for the Pacific freight carrying business from Puget Sound ports to the Orient and also is siid to be a strong bidder for the Ad- miral Line ships which recently were turned over to the Dollar interests by the Tailed States Shipping Board, a sale which has been held up and is now the subject of enquiry in the United States' Congress.
