ciation with the Far East extending over a period of more than 37 years, the last 9 years of which have been spent in Hongkong
Father Robert came to the East in January 1889, at the age of 23 years. He was in Hongkong for about one month and was then transferred to Shanghai,
where he remained until 1901. From 1904 until his departure yesterday he has been head of the French Mission in this Colony. For ten years Father Robert was a mem ber of the French Municipal Council in Shanghai. It was largely due to his fore- sight that the new French Concession was built and he was associated prominently with the laying out of the beautiful French gardens at Koudaza. The street -Rue Pere Robert, was named in his hamour.
In Hongkong Father Robert was a director of many local companies and rendered able service to the business life of the Colony. It was at his suggestion, and largely through his co-operation, that the French Convent was removed from uncongenial surroundings at Wanchai to its present site at Causeway Bay.
The second ordinary annual meeting of shareholders of the Hongkong and Territorial Estates, Ltd., is advertised to take place at St. George's Building, offered but declined; Officer of the Ch. Thursday, May 20th, at 11 am.
The death occurred at the Italian Convent Hospital on Monday of Mrs. Maude Nicol, wife of Capt. T. R. Nicol. The funeral service was held at Happy Valley cemetery yesterday evening.
The Fatahan arrived yesterday at o'clock, something over two hours behind her schedule time. The delay was due to a slight accident on the trip down but the steamer will resume her sailing as nsual to-day.
Major-General Luard, General Officer Commanding the Forces, Major J. Macready and Lieut. R. QF Johnston were passengers by the Artagnan for Shanghai. The Artagner left at mid: night last night.
Among the decorations which Father Robert holds are Chevalier of the Legion. of Honour, which was conferred on him in 1991, after having been twice previously nese Order of the Golden Crop; Grand Officer of the Imperial Order of the Dragon of Annam; and also Oficer of the Dragon of Anaam,
The new Procureur-General of the French Mission in Hongkong will be the Very lev. Father A. M.. Boitteau.
