HIGH STANDARD OF PEAY YESTERDAY,

Very good match, worthy of Championship standard, was played off yesterday when Sewell met Yew Man Tsun in the second sound of the Open Singles. Play was fast throughout and resulted in a win for Yew Man Taun by⠀⠀ three sets to one. There was not much | to choose between the two players who were evenly matched, except perhaps in their respective stylea, Sewell showing stiffness in form and the Chinese player exhibiting accurate judgment in cutting and placing, but he could not play as forceful as his opponent. Interest was maintained right up to the end and every stroke was well contested.

Sewell played a forceful game in the first two sets and had the better of the exchanges, surprising his opponent with many aces from his driving. He took the first set and led 5-3 in the second. But Yew Man Taun's better match experience turned the tide in his favour and he' quickly controlled Sewell's play and won Sewell continued to work hard, but could the next four games, to even the score.
