from the Garrison, and desiring

know whether I
can
commit their Safe Keeping
to the Force
under
my
command,
authorize payment being made
for an extra
Police Force employed at present
on that Service.
In reply to your letter under acknowledgment, I have the honor to submit to your Excellency that it has hitherto been the custom for the Stores in question to be protected by the Garrison, aided by Assistant Police paid by the Naval Storekeeper at forty Dollars per month:
that when from Sickness and other causes the Garrison could not furnish the Guard a Police Force has been employed at the expense of the Colony.
As duties will compel me to take my Flag from this part of my Station in the month of January, and the small Frigates that will be left here on my departure, would be unable to furnish a Guard from their complement, it appears that it will be necessary for the Police Force being continued, until the Garrison is in a position to resume this duty.
I will bring the Subject of the disbursements already made for this Service by the Colony, under the notice of the Lords Commissioners of
