It was a keen contest between W. J. Delahay and J. B. Nelson at the base of the scrum. He said Parliament should insist that, humanity should have the advantage of ing. Dr. Axham had been hounded out of the medical profession and was pur sued with a vindictive sentence up to the time when he almost had one foot in the grave. The time had come when those things should be enquired into and when it should no longer be a crime for a doctor to administer anesthetica for 'man like Sir Herbert Barker.

Dr. Shiels (Soc., Edinburgh) said he did not feel that such an enquiry as was proposed by the resolation was desirable at present. At the same time he thought that observation should be kept on un- qualified practice.

CURED HIMSELF. Most members would admit that Bir Herbert Barker was a man of exceptional ability. The bulk of the medical pro- fession would agree that Sir Herbert had done very considerable service and was a practitioner of no mean skill. But he was. very exceptional case.

Mr. Neville Chamberlain, the Minis ter of Health, opposed both the motion and the amendment. His argument with regard to the first was that the public should not be debarred from the services of any man, qualified or unqualified man they did so at their own risk.

His objection to the amendment lay in the difficulty of defining the proper qualification for inclusion in a register of recognised osteopaths. It would be necessary, apparently, to rely on the diplomas given by American colleges over which we had no control--and that was an impossible basis to accept.
