Mr. G. HI. Ports seconded the adoption of the report and accounts. In doing so he said: We are pleased. that things have turned cut better than expected, and at. the same time I hope that things will be better next year, that the strike will be finished and that work will continue in the Colony. I have pleasure in second- ing, but I would like to know something about the large, sum of over $1,300,000 Can you tell invested in stone or cement me how much was invested in stone and bow much in cement?
The CHURMAN: Most of it is in stone. and we are very glad to have it.
Mr. POTTS: It seems a very large sum? The CHAIRMAN: We must keep large stocks. We have had trouble before. We "are getting no stone now, and we are very glad to have large stocks.

The CHAIRMAN: We are getting none at all now.
The CHAIRMAN said:-Gentlemen,-Aa, the Report and Accounts for the year ending 31st December, 1925, have been in your hands for some time past I will with your permission take them as read.
The result of the year's work certainly compares unfavourably with that of pre: vious years, but I need make no apology for this as you all know the unfavourable business conditions with which we have had to contend since the beginning of the Strike of Chinese labour last June.

PROPOSED YACTORY AT 7SUNWAN POSTTONED.
As regards the proposed Factory at Tsun Wan the necessary work of obtain ing borings and soundings for the recia- mation of the site has been carried out, and much work has been done at home in.. cbtaining estimates and information as to the best and most economical type of plant, but after careful consideration. of the position, your "Directors in face of the difficulty of obtaining labour and the necessary financial facilities, felt that there was no course open to them but to stop further proceedings and postpone the whole matter until the trade of the Colony returns to normal conditiona. This, of course, is very disappointing to all concerned, but on the other hard we have done all we could to push on the completion of the grinding machinery for the Rotary Grate Kilns which are now taking the place of four of the old Aalborg Kilas at Hok Un with good results.
Two more are under construction at Macao and should be finished and at work before the end of this year. Unless, therefore, some very great increase in the demand for Cement should arise we should be more than able to supply all our re quirements for some time to come with our present plant.
THE COMPANY'S FINANCES."
Now as to our finances, last year all our cash in hand went in payment of the dividend and you will see from the balance sheet that up to 31st December we had expended 8330,305 on Macao and 879,50€ on Hok Un; consequently on 31st De cember our overdraft at the Bank bad risen to nearly $300,000 but against this our stocks of raw and finished material were higher by nearly $400,000, and our investments at $714,036 were untouch-

At Deep Water Bay the first six months work shewed a profit but every- thing was brought almost to standstill in July and since then it has simply been struggle to keep the factory going with whatever unskilled labour we could pick up. I am, however, glad to say that the prospects for this year seem, especially as regards bricks, better." The new brick kiln is fulfilling all our expectations aé

EASTERN EXTENSION CABLE CUT.
MALICIOUSLY DONE.
The Manila Timer of the 11th inst May's
Some unknown persons cut the cable to Hongkong operated by the Eastern Ex- tension Australasian and China Tele- graph Co., Ltd., at a distance of about 35 miles from Manila and just a few miles oft Corregidor, according to information from the Custome House. It is believed that the cutting "took place at about 2 o'clock in the afternoon of March 1st. A piece of rope was found attached to the cable, showing that it was purposely cut. The local office of the Eastern Extension Company has asked the aid of the Har- hour Master in conducting investigations. Communication has been restored.

NO PROSPECTS OF "COMPROMISE."
Contrary to reports from Filipino sources published in the Manila Times regarding a possible compromiso by which American capital might be in div.duced to enter the Philippines to finance small rubber plantations, Harvey S. stone said, as rubber growing is a slow process, requiring great initial outlay and at least five years of heavy expense for sanitation measures, transportation facili. ties, etc., before there are returns from the product. A few large estates are necessary, around which smaller native- owned estates can operate, but the pro- ject of 6nancing sporadic independent producers is not justified as a business proposition..
Mr. Firestone said that rubber was be- coming a fundamental commodity, like steel, and that there was practically speaking no limit to its uses. He cited an instance in Akron, Ohio, where a por- tion of street is paved with rubber blocks. The pavement is noiseless, resilient, and apparently almost indestructible.
