THE CANTON PICKETS. AN ALLEGED AMERICAN GROUP'S SQUEEZE.

[FROM QUA CHINEAR CORRESPONDENT.) While the "Kuomintang Government in Canton is minimising all signs of unrest, nevertheless many have deemed it wise to depart for Hongkong by various routes recently. On March 13th, some 1,300 arrived at Hongkong from Macao-of course not all from Canton. The Strike Committee in Canton has been instructed by the Kuomintang to issue permits to Chinese for Hongkong only under excep- tional circumstances; yet some 200 de parted from Canton by a regular British boat for Hongkong on the 14th..

THE A.D.C. PRODUCTION "IF." A PLAYGOER'S CANDID CRITICISM.

[CONTRIBUTED.]

Now that the latest production of the " Hongkong A.D.C, has run its short course, but is still fresh in the public mind, a friendly criticism, may not come amiss.

I think it will be generally admitted that the production of this much dis cussed play of Lord Dunsany's gave much pleasure and caused even more interest among Hongkong theatre lovers, but one gathers that the genersi consensus of epinion can be summed up in two words! -Too ambitious. As to the individual acting, there can be no doubt that the average was distinctly good.

The players who made most impression by their talents, for I do not think that the word 'genius" can be rightly used, were Mrs. Greensmith in her very difficult part, Mrs. Logan-always actress, Mr. Lindsell also in bis easy
