The closing day of the annual meeting, under HKJ.C. rales, was featured by better dividends, though the fields were" comparatively speaking small.
The unlucky thirteen went out for the first race, but the moment. Mr. Mollér took Shere Khan II. into the bend at the three furlong post the race was as good as over; though the official verdict? was only a bare length.
In the second event, Mr. Pollock, on San Diego took the load just before entering the straight and was never headed
In the third event, September jumped uff with the lead and was never headed.
In the fourth event, Golden Pheasant and Formidable belt the lead on suffer ance, until Mr. Pollock sent The Geezer to the front when he won comfortably from Barley Grass
The fifth event was practically & walk over for Fantastic Dahlia.
In the next race, Bundoran came with a great run from the distance post, to win by a neck, very handily,
The seventh event, as indicated, was an exercise gallop for Total Abstinence..
In the eighth event, Grey Streak won very easily from a poor feld.
The penultimate event produced the biggest field of the day, but Blue Gras, jumped off with the lead, was never headed and won by a clear two lengths.
The last event was practically a walk: over for The Regent, who was in the lead from start to finish.

For some reason the Anglo-Saxon tert- Ferament does not seem to lend itself to the Carnival.spirit; as does that of our Latin neighbours. This however, may be due as much to the lack of the proper spirit on the part of the or ganisers; as on that of the partakers in the Carnival. To thoroughly participate in the real spirit of Carnival, the essential thing is unselfconsciousness, and it is not easy for the Anglo-Saxon to forget himself, and to let himself goin a spirit of abandon. To do so, he needs some outside assistance, so that he can feel he is in a position to let go of his conscious ego without making an of himself. The surest way of en- particularly than. abling bim-more **her," na "she" finds it more easy,. apparently to enter into the spirit of Carnival to do this, is to encourage him to disguise himself, so that if he does, what in his more rational momenta he scornfully describes make a damned fool of himself," nobody can
