November 28th, 1850.

Understanding that Mr. Stanton the

Colonial Chaplain will not return to the Colony, I am induced to offer myself

as

a

Candidate for the appointment and to request your kind interference in my behalf with His Lordship the Secretary of State for the Colonies.

I graduated at Ch. Ch., Oxford, and received my present appointment as Military Chaplain in March 1845 at the recommendation of the Lord Bishop of London, in whose hands I left the testimonials to which I then had the honour to lay before His Lordship.

During the period I have filled my present post, owing to the sickness or absence

His Excellency S. G. Bonham,

Governor of Hongkong,
