Make your Teeth Strong with Kalzana

Very few people get enough calcium from their ordinary food. Yet medical science insists that it is the most important of all the minerals needed by the body. Kalzana ia calcium in a palatable, easily digested form. Take a few tablets daily and provide your sys- tem with the material it needs to

form strong, sound teeth, capable of lasting a lifetime..

A Docter of Dental Surgery writes: "Kalzana makes the teeth strong and hard and so stops tooth decay. I have often seen extraordinary results even after a few weeks' use."

Look at your children's teeth. If the first set shows decay take heed of nature's warning. Let Kalana help to produce a perfect second set. The ment persistent use of the tooth-brush cannot indefinitely protect weak, poor quality teeth against decay. "

Expectant and nursing mothers need Kalzina. It makes good the excessive loss of calcium, protects the teeth against decay and secures strong, safe teeth to their children.

DUTCH EAST INDIES. REVIEW OF A SATISFACTORY YEAR.

At the annual meeting of the Amster dam Chamber of Commeros on January 5th, the President, Mr. E Heldring, speaking of the Dutch East Indies, said:

It is a fortunate thing that the econo mie and financial position of the D.E.I. is so much more satisfactory than it used to be. The budgetary position is favour. able, although the fact should not he lost sight of that the State revenuea have been increased by the ample revenues from tin and the favourable re- ruits of the cultures, sources which may soon begia to dry up to a considerable extent. The fact must also be reckoned with that within a few years the redemp tion of loans will begin. Notwithstand ing the fact, however, that the uncertain- ty attached to certain items of the DET. Tevenues Fenders great caution necessary also in view of the compara-

margin tively narrow

between tho amount of the National Debs and the value of the publio works balancing it, the question is justified whether the super tax on the tax on companies should be abrogated, now that the said t without the supertar, which wie institut ed 0.5 $21 emergency measure-yields more than the complex of taxes whose place it has taken. In fact, it is of the greatest importance that private capital of which the country is urgently in need for ita further development, should "not be diverted from the D.E.I. to other countries owing to considerations of a Escal nature. It goes without saying, therefore, that further retrenchment on the elaborate State machinery remains a 5rst duty.

The position of the debt of the D.E.I. (expressd in millions of guildera) is as follows:-End 1925, ead 1924. Funded Debt 1,105, 1,125, Floating Deb, 64, 118.

Owing to splendid crop results and high prices, the sugar culture yielded high proft last year. The same applies to the tobacco and ether cultures, with the exception of copra The copra, crop over 19 and the exports during the first nine months of 1925, dropped from 45 to 3 million kiloa. The further in- crease in the manufacture coconut oil in Insulinde deserves attention. Exports of this article rose to 7.5 million litres in the first nine months of 1995, com-: paring with 5.7 million and 31,000 litres in the corresponding period of 1994 and 1993:

The prolonged drought in Java during the last six months of the year was very injurious to the crops, and causes the prospects for 1928 to be less favourable In the first place, the rice crop suffered. Further, it is exported that the crop of sugar cans will be considerably smaller than usual, whilst the drop in sugar prices will further depress the receipts of the companies. Tea, tobacco and coffee crops will also be more or less seriously affected

In the year under consideration, the rise in the price of rubber has been phe nomenal, and big profits may be looked forward to in the near future, by both the great companies and the native rubber growers. Already rubber haa ousted sugar, from the fire place as an article of export. The proceeds from about 180,000 tons of rubber may be safely estimated at f.430,000,000, whilat those from about 32 milian piculs of sugar will probably amount to no more than 1.30,000,000.

THE LAW OF THE SKIRT.

Gone is the time when our poets sang the praises of the tempestuous petticoat. The place thereof knows it no more. With axious yet embarrassed eyes the, waning fortunes of the skirt are watch- ed. Daily it grows smaller by degrees, though cot always beautifully less. In the days of Good Queen Anne, Steele and Addison kept the town egog with rumours of cabals among the fair to make dresses. lower and lower yet. But to that modest ake the possibilities of the ascension of the skirt had not been revealed. It is doubtless the working of that mysterious forte, Nature's law of compensation, which keeps the modern frock up to the neck. Here in the West men have learnt to take with decent meekness what they are given. But the Greek taste is offended. To the women of Hellas, the law has just said, "Thus far and no farther." Exactly how far we find ourselves with infinite regret unable to say, for one telegram tells of skirts 134 inches long and another of akirts 7 inches below the knee, which, by all the principles of anatomy, cannot be the same thing. What is certain is that any married woman and any girl over" 14 whose skirt in shorter than the law provides in an offender. Women in- spectors will walk the streets of Athens with roving eyes At first the scanty skirt will be warned, then the law is to put forth its red right hand; and the polica give notice to all the other sex that fathers are responsible for their children and husbanda for their wives. The up- plication of this always dubious prin- ciple to a matter of skirts is the crown ing injustice to men. There must rely be some knowledge of human nature, în the Greek police. Some of them are pro bably husbands, some fathers. They must be aware that it is very rarely the father or the husband who incites to the shorten: ing of skirts. Not from parental or 309- jugal lips comes the cry Excelsior” What the need for such a peasal mesure is in Greece, what peculiar causes there may be there making a longer-ekirt necessary to the welfare of the State, w are not informed. In the old days there used to be a good deal of feeling about. the scanty clothes of the Spartan women as compared with the flowing robes of the secluded women of Athens. But the modern woman; though rol of Spartan ansarity, has decided that in this matter. Sparta chose the better way-Dolly
