PARIS FASHION NOTES.

(FROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT," 1JAKEL RIMBAY.]

PARIS, January 11th The days have been such a misery of cold and continuous rain these last few weeks, that the mere thought of the Riviera brings the joy of sunshine and blue skies with it.

To compensate for not being able to tuck away into the Blue Train as it goes aliding by from Calais to Mentos, many Parisiennes are choosing frocks from the collections which the big designers have prepared for those sensor on the Cote d'Azur. This is easier than it sounds)

for a Riviera collection does not neces sarily mean collection of dresses in flimsy organdie and the like. This year, for instance, designers are using a tre- mendous amount of jersey de laine, mast ly for their simple morning and sports clothes, and as such frocks can be word quite well in Paris, it is just as easy to choose Riviera clothes as any others from the Paris collections.

A craze that has caught oa to popular fancy for the moment, is that of utilising the batik scarves that most people possess. by now to make tunics which are worn with a dark coloured satin skirt. The process of transformation is simplicity itself. You merely take a scarf, fold it in two, sew up the sides so that two openings are allowed to slip the arms through, cut out a neck, add a girdle and the deed is done. I have seen most ebarm ing examples, the predominant colour in the scarf being repeated in the colour

Another craze is to repeat the design and colour of one's dress in the lining of one's cont. Usually, this is carried out with printed materials, although original examples of it are to be seen in plain materials on which motifs are embroidered, either in silk or beads. Here is an example I noticed in one of the collections. The dress was in crêpe de Chine in a pale mauve shade, and was embroidered all over in gold leaves, The coat that went with it, was in black satin, and the lining was an exact re- plica of the frock, being in similar mauve. crêpe de Caine,
