You would perhaps like to know that building operations in this property have been going on quite satisfactorily and that the new building for our Shang- hai Office will be finished early next year. when we will be able to offer bett facilities to our clients. I may also mention here that the Directors are quita satisfied with the workings of the other. branches and the prospects of their future expansion are very promising.
Turning now to the accounts, you will observe that we have maintained a cash balance bigger than last year, and I cannot too strongly emphasie that the policy of your Directors in maintaining a large cash balance as long as the pre- sent state of affairs exists in the Colony is a prudent one.....

The following returns are published in the Government Gazette of the average. amount of Bank Notes in circulation and You will also observe that ample pro- vision against bad and doubtful debts of Specie in Reserve in Hongkong, during has been made in respect of loans and the month ended January 31st, 1926, as advances to clients, and the Directors certified by the Managers of the respec are satisfied that the amount set aside for this purpose will be quite sufficient to cover any contingencies
An interim dividend of 83 per share has been paid and the Directors' recom- mendation of payment of 3% final dividend and 2 bonus to shareholders, making in all 8 on your capital, is the same as the previous years.
The Directors feel no doubt that you will endorse their policy in transferring the sum of $200,000 to the General Reserve Fund, thus bringing (same to total of 81,200,000.
The amount to be carried forward is $163,305.28. This balance is larger than that we usually carried forward in the previous years, but I am sure that shareholders will endorse the action of your Directors in proposing that this balance be carried forward and thus be available for requirements of the en- suing year.
