The week-end shipping statement show. ed that the total number of vessels in the harbour at 9 a.m.-on Saturday was 72, of which 28 were British. At the same hour yesterday morning the total number was 69, of which 37 word British.
The arrivals for the twenty-four hours ended at 9 a.m. on Saturday numbered eight, viz-four British, one Dutch, one American, one German and one Japanese The departures over the same period num. bered six. The arrivals for the twenty-four houra ended at 9 a.m. yesterday number- ed eloven, viz. -six British, four Japan ese and one Chinese. Departures over the same period numbered fourteen.

SHIPPING NOTES. Further news, of n very reassuring character, reached Hongkong on Satur duy concerning the. China Navigation Company's as. Taming, which vessel was assumed last week to have been forcibly detained at. Hoihow while en route for Haiphong. News now to hand goes to show, as mentioned in our columns on Friday, that the wireless message receive ed in Hongkong from one of the pas sengers transhipped to the French s.. misconstrued. The new flanoi regime in Hoihow has done little or no- thing towards restricting trade. The new 8.5 Yew Mathilde arrived here on Satur day from Hoihow and the master report- ed that thero was" nothing unusual there when his vessel cleared. The Taming was The Taming left then loading cargo. Hoihow for Haiphong on Thursday even- ing and was expected to reach that port on Saturday. Yesterday the sung- chow (also one of the China Navigation Company's feet) reached Bongkong.

The C.P.S. R.M.S. Empress of Runxia (Captain A. J. Hoskin, R.N.R., Com. mander), has now left dock fallowing her annual overhaul and has gone to her wharf at Kowloon. The liner is schedaled to sail from Hongkong for Victoria and Vancouver, B.C., on Friday at 1a.m.
At the Marine Court on Saturday, before Lieut.-Commander G. F. Hole, R.N., two-Chinees boatmasters were esch fined 85, with the alternative of five days' hard labour, for using drags and grapplings to retrieve articles from the sea bottom, outside the man-of-war ad- chorage, without a permit.
Of the cargo entered for Hongkong on Saturday, 3,560 tons were carried by British vessels. The heaviest entry was by the American vesela. Weet Prospect
