EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS IN SWATOW..
ΣΤΟ ΣΤΗΝ ΕΡΙΤΟΣ ΟΙ ΤΗΣ HONGKONG
DAILY PRESS.
SIR-Your correspondent in his article "Position in Swatow" of November 20th made certain statements on the curious American attitude" which 'needs corree tion.
The Swatow Christian Institute is an Institutional church." which seeks to serve the community in every way possible. Hitherto, educational work has been a very effective social service and the In- stitute carried on its school work with vigour. However, of the 600 students and scholars only 5 per cent. came from
Christian homes.
The national movement which demands the restoration of ordinary schools to be subject to the local government authori ties is one that cannot be ignored. The Institute workers felt that within a short time our schpola, instead of being an acceptable social service, migh: become un irritating factor and a subject of con- troversy.

His. Honour said that the parties were suing each other for alleged breaches of contract for the sale of goods. The original contract between the parties was dated August 5th and signed by both parties. Plaintiffs were the sellers and defcadants the purchasers According to this contract delivery was to be given within 60 days, which period expired on October 4th. On September 17th the parties again conferred, and the sellers' agent made a pencilled note in Chinese on the portion of the contract which was held by the purchasers. The note was as follows: Shipped on the 28th." As a result of that conference, the parties agreed to rescind the original contract and substituted for it a new contract. In namely $1,641, $1,112, 873 and 3147, said this new contract the sellers undertook to have been received by him on account. to deliver the goods six days in advance of Getz Bros. & Co.,
The Chief Justice (Sir Henry Gollan) intimated that they could not be added to the same indictment, but that a new indictment would have to be drawn up.
The charges brought against Mr. Atherley yesterday related to the conver- sion to his own use of four 'sums of money,
As previously reported, there has been a split in the Kuomintang Central Execu tive Committee, some 15 members now meeting in Peking elaining that they con- stitute the legal quorum,. and an equal number in Canton repudiating the actions and resolutions of the other section.
