HE may thrill to your smartness yet never notice the cut 11 or color of your gown. But should he glimpse the slightest trace of unsightly hair-the whole impression is spoiled; he classifies you from then on as a woman lacking
in fastidiousness.
Avoid this unfair criticism. Keep your underarms, fore- arins and neck clean and fresh with the depilatory famous in France for over one hundred years-X-BAZIN! Safe, easy to use, delicately fragrant, X-BAZIN leaves your skin petal-soft and white. X-BAZIN does not coarsen, darken, or encourage future hair growth. And it takes but a few minutes to perform its important duty. Be fair to your beauty! Use X-BAZIN..

The fact is that in international matters: in the Far East the record of the Chris- tian Powers is like that of the Christian Powers in regard to Turkey, to which I called attention in the Edinburgh Review in January, 1913-it is very bad. The best chance for peace lies in a frank re cognition by all the negotiators of broken treatics in the past and, for ourselves, the maintenance of our prestige by show. ing an equal naval force on the spot with the United States and Japan, and by bastening to rebuild our navy and modern- ise our naval base at Singapore, without which our battle-fleet cannot act in the Far East.
* Faces nine-tenths of the battle with Orientals, and the Japanese are unfortunately only too well aware that the present government has mortgaged our inancial future by ita Pensions Act this year, and let our navy down far below the strength required maintain its position, even on the one-Power basis.
The country should open its eyes to the ominous position of affairs in the Far East. An attempt has been made in the present article to give a plain unvarnished staternent of the position so far as Japan is concerned-Sine ira et studio quorum cum praent haben. Above, all do not let us blame our diplomatista' the result of the Peking Conference in October is ant in accordance with our wishes or our interests, and if another Lausanne is in store for us For our diplomatists, like our sailors, have been once more asked by the politicians to make bricks without
