the adoption of my proposal, to be ground sufficient for moving this Grace the Commander-in-Chief to the favourable consideration of this indispensable portion of Scheme, without which I would beg to be perfectly understood that I could not resign my present post: the consequences would be ruinous and mine, and under circumstances it would be better for me to continue to perform the duties of my present office as I best might, than to risk the Sacrifice my Commission.
to me such in Should His Grace have it in his power to promise that upon the resignation of my Civil appointment my Commission shall be at once disposed of, I have stated, I am once ready to retire at the end of 1851, if it be equally in the power of the Secretary of State to accede to my wishes regarding my army pension and the grant of land.
I therefore take the liberty of enclosing the documents which would be required at the Horse Guards with reference to the sale of my Majority, and with many apologies for trespassing at too great length upon Your Excellency's attention.
