The shipping statement for yesterday showed that the total number of vessels in the harbour at á am. Wan 71, of which 30 were British.

Hoi Nam, Portuguese str., 484 tons. For the 24 hours ended at 9 B. Hl. Capt. J. A. de Lemos, from Kwang yesterday there were 13 arrivals, of which, Chow. Wan, with a general cargo, lyaeven were British, one Portuguese, one ing at buoy No. C30-Kwang O S.S. Swedish, one Dutch and three Japanese. The departures for the same period "num- bered six and there were two vessels clearing.

Cargo entared was very heavy, thers' being a total of 14,384 tons for Hongkong, against 3,398 tons for the previous hours. Deck passengers numbered 1,835, of which 313 were brought by the as Fook Sany from Amoy 125 by the as Sunning from Shanghai and Amoy; 551 by the as Tilaa from Calcutta and Singapore and 49 by the as Tjisalat trom Sourabaya and Muntok compared with 185 the previous day.

According to a report made to the Harbour Office yesterday, the Batureia met with an accident during the week-end when on her way South to Kwang Chow Wan.

It appean that the vessel "broke hur shaft, and after drifting belpless for some time the 8. Phranang, owned by the Cheong Yne 8.8. Company, also bound for Kwang Chow Wan, fortunate. ly, hove in aight and stood by to render suistance.

The Phrangg took the Batareia in tow and brought her back to Hongkong, after heavy pull against the N.E. moncón.. The Batarcia was in dock during July.
