Pinas. July 27th." Winter sports costumes, this season, are divided into two categories: those which have skirts or apologies for skirts for wear over the trousers, and those which have none. Chevron effects have been introduced into a number of sweaters this season, and many patterns have also been made charming by combining two or three colours. Where plain colours have not then chosen designers have kept faith consistently to a use of stripes or checks. cRUSHED EASPBERRY KASHA.

I was present at a barade of winter sports fashions last week, and remarked way of white costumes. I have heatland the crimson skirt made a striking many fashion critics contend that white composition for the rosy-cheeked wearer wool costumes do not look nearly so at for whom it was destined.. And when tractive against a background of snow speaking of roay cheeks, I mean really as do the more brilliantly coloured ones. and honestly rosy cheeks, not the blush This, of course. is a matter for individual that comes out of the little round box, for taste. The snow and the white wool offer one of the unwritten laws of Alpine resorts what one night term a symphony in white is that all make-up shall be left behind major which is at oure subtle and fain Paris, and only the cold cream and cinating and must appeal to those who powder which common humanity could not have a penchant for original effects and it possible to refuse, be applied. Some of these white.costumes I saw last week were finished with hands of white rabbit. One notable suit was composed of a white kasha jumper, a pair of white kasha trousers buttoning below the knees, a white kusha skirt, made flat back and front and with pleated panels let into the sides to allow for movement,

" white rabbis fur jacket" which descended well onto the hips and a white kasha eloso-- fitting cap finished with a band of white rabbit fur. The stockings were hand knitted of white wool and the shoes were of white huckskin, which, being slightly bluish in tone, added another note to the symphony in white.

more than anything an innovation in the jumper, white stockings and black shoes to a Claims against the Steamer must be

For those who would naturally prefer bright coloured effects, there was a suit. in natural colour Earbo (a light, yellowish beige) showing a long-waisted jacket, a pair of trousers buttoning Le low the knees, a skirt of rainbow stripid kasha and golf stockings hand knitted of beige coloured wool, which rolled over so as to cover up the lower end of the trousers. The cap was of kasha the same as the costume and it. like the pockets. and the collar of the jacket, was finished with a band of rainbow striped kasha

CLOTHES FOR SPORTS.

There is more or less a standard-model for Alpine sports costumes, no doubt be cause skating and ski-ing demand above all else a certain freedom of movemerit and this is only obtainable when certain lines have been adhered to. The jumper blouse with a collar capable of button" ing up closely about the throat, long sleeves buttoning closely about the wrists, a pair of trousers buttoning below the knees, two pairs of stockings, one pair which, like golf stockings, reach to just below the kuces where they turn over, the second pair to roll over the top of high, shoes and keep snow from working s way into them, a scarf and a close-fitting cap are the actual necessities which con- stitute a sports outfit these days. · The skirt is quite optional. Probably the most attractive skirta are those which are split at each ride so as to give ample room for the wearer to execute the biplane glide, the spread eagle or any other fantastic figure abo pay wish to indulge in. These panel skirts may reach no lower than the knees. They may be of cross-striped kasha, or of plain, kasha; they may be weighted with a band of fur laid across the lower edge, or they may he finished with a plain hem. In any case, they are practical and look most charming, and it must be admitted, even- by the Inast Budern and daring that they look just a scrap more graceful than the uncovered trousers.

BEIGE AND ULCE

The costumes of tricot are not quite as warm us those of kasha. They may be a trifle more flexible, but a well-cut kisha costume, affords all the freedom of move- ment needed by the active sportswoman, and one of the disadvantages of tricot is that it is porous and apt, therefore, to let in the cool wind. However, tricot can be made up into the most attractive of costumes. Úne which I noticed stim recent parade was a charming composi tion of beige and blue shades, with brush wool and plam yarn forming the casem- ble. The blouse was in a peri-winkle shade of plain yarn and the collar, cufs and baad about the hips showed a check- ed effect of blue and beige, the beige being of brush wool which blurred, the checks most effectively. The jacket, which buttoned up and showed nothing but the rolled collar of the jumper un derneath; was of the beige brush wool and was bordered with the same check effect of blue and beige. The golf stock ings were of beige brush wool, rooling over below the knees to show blue checks, whilst the cap and the scarf, both of beigo brush wool, were also finished off. with a border of the blue checks,
