LOCAL SPORT. RIGINENTAL BOXING, LAST NIGHT'S CONTESTS

MURRAY BARRACKS

(BY: CADORYDD.]

There

The contests in connection with the East Surrey Regiment Basing Tourns. ment were continued last night. They were on the whole quite good. were, however, to my mind a few poor locisions given last night. I understand that in such a series of competitions, judges have a none too easy task, but in a few of the competitious. I must totally

lisagree with their decisions.

At the conclusion of last night's missions, the points aquired by the various companies were:-

A. Ca

D. Co.

R.W.

- IL Co.

485

The officials last night were:-Judges: Lieut. Cockrytie and Lieut. Copa Re fera: Capt. Drake-Brockmun,

The events were announced by Best Sergeant Major Maynard.

The results. follow

WELTERWEIGHTS (3rd-Series). In the fight between Pte. Cooper (R.W.) atil Pte. Hatton (D.) Hatton was subject ed to terrific punishment and retired in the acond round. The second fight was

shorter and more decisive, when Ptc. Langley (B) fell to Pte. Moult (D.) in the first round. The third fight saw Pte. Morton (A) giving in to Pte. Douglas (A.) in the first round.

A NICE BOXER

Pte. Hopkins (D.). Pte. Churchly [B.). A good first round saw Churchly getting the better of matters, although bis opponent was bigger and apparently stronger. In the second round, Churchly at home heavy blows to the face and body. He had much the better of the exchanges. He sustained his superiority in the last round. He boxed nicely.

LIGHT WEIGHTS.

Pte. Edwards (Ar. Cpl. Choules (D) Choules was forced to cover him self often in the first round, but he oc casionally got hard rights home to the body. Edwards was, however, superior. Choules turned the tables a little in the second round and was the better." Ho was, however, too prone to wrestle. The third round was fiercely contested, with Edwards mostly the aggressor. Choules was given the decision, but I believe that Edwards was slightly ahead. He did most of the attacking and was not as erratic as Choules was. Neither had nuch advantage in the exchanges Hero the points were fairly even, but I thought that Edwards had secured a few extra points by virtue of his continually taking the fight to his man,

A LITTLE AFRAID, Pte. Butler (A). Pte. Welton (C.). Blows landed in the first round were few, but all these were Welton's. Both boxers were continually playing for opening, but Butler was generally unsuccessful in getting in. The second was also Welton's round.

Butler did better in the third rosad but he appeared throughout the fight to be afraid of his opponent. He gave ground continually. Welton won easily.

A TERRIFIC HITTER. Pte. Wilcox (D.) e. Pte. Aider (A) A fierce first round saw Alder being floor- of thrice, and the last tirae he was count el out. Wilcox is a terrific, sure, and vigorous fighter. He has a superb style, and deals out blows with either hand as swiftly as a catapult.

THE HOI NAM” RUMOUR.

Pt Holcombe (C) Pte. Williams PICKETS PREVENT CHINESE FROM SIR JAMES JAMIESON ASKED TO (BW). "Williama danced around the ring while Halcombe kept his ground. Holcombe got home often, deading with the left and following quickly with the right. The exchanges in the second round wors lively and Holcombe did not have all his own way, sinor his opponent often got home to the jaw with his left. Williams seemed suddendly to wake up The third found was exceptionally good and Holcombe was onen sent back with a nasty left. So keen was the content that an extra round of one minute had to be fought. Holcombe rushed to attack and fanded well early in the round,

won easily.

NARROW WIN

He

Ftc. Choules (D.) v. Pte. Parsons (A.). A Berce encounter in the first round saw the honours fairly evenly disided, but as the round ended Choules was floored with a nastly upper-cut. He immediate ly rose. In the second round, Parsons continually tried to get his right home, but Choules defence was good. Choules used straight fafts advantageously in this round. The third round was well fought, An extra round was called for. This was a hustling affair. Both men wild. Farsons was given the decision.
