PEACE MADE WITH MR. LESLIE
HENSON.
The differences between Mr. Leslie Henson and Miss Cicely Debenham, the comedicane, which led to her abrupt de -parture from." Patricia "at His Majesty's Theatre, Haymarket; N.W., is · February, have been roothed away,
Mr. Henson wrote to Miss Debenham and asked her to desist from the practice of private jokes during her performance. with the result that Miss Debenham threw up her part, which has to be taken by an understudy at about a quarter- of-an-hour's votier
Messrs. Ginedatla, Jacobson, and Spyer, solicitors to Miss Debenham, and Messrs Boyon and Evans, solicitors to Mr. Hen- son, forwarded the following letters to The Daily Maif
M HENSON'S REORITS.
My dear Debi I am delighted that we have met and shaksu hands after the miserable business of the last few weeks. As I have told you, I shall always be sorry that the letter I wrote you was presented to you just as you were going: on. As a fellow-artist: I can quite un derstand your feelings and am sure [ should have done the same thing myself. I was also very wrong in not "com ing to ser you personally on hearing. that you were so upset, but things were so official that suppore I. hentiated in doing the ordinay human thing.
1 should have seen you personally against the next morning and asked you to play the matinée instead of leaving it to someone else. All this could have beet patched up so quickly if I had taken this line. I had no idea that you would feel this way, and am quite satisfi ed now that you were doing all you knew for the success of the play, and my blunt criticisms must bave hurt. particular- ly 1LN I am convinced Trom the way you look this that you could not. wilfully a show down.
Of course, no two people's ideas con stage methods ever coincide, and perhaps I was silly not to give and take a little more. However, there may come a time when W ean work together hand in hand again, and I know that now we have cleared the air. we shall un- stand each other, better in the future.
With sincerest wishes for your future success, believe we sincerely yours,
