[VROM OUR" CHINESE CORRESPONDENT] NO RELIGION IN SCHOOLS.

No religicus books or course in religion shall hereafter be allowed in the regular curriculum of schools in Canton, public or private, according to a special order of the Civil Governor at Canton, who has directed that religion must be separated from school education. The Civil Gover nor has also made attendance of religious services or ceremonials in schools by students voluntary or compulsory only by consent of the parents concerned The order was made at the instance of the Bureau of Education by petition of the an ti-Christian League and others aiming to deal & blow at the Christian schools. It is not believed that the order will help the anti-Christian agitatore at all, as the Christian institutions, which always have more applicants than they can take care of, may still continue their work as they used to do by simply asking all parents or guardians of students to give the necessary consent for their wards to attend services. -
