The Hay Settlement was negotiated on the 9th inst. and during the period under review very little business haa been done. Prices are more reactionary, due more to the fact that the market has become a little stale and has perhaps temporarily overrun itsel? than to any adverse developments. Money is not Quito so naay in native circles. Invest- ment stacks remain, arm, bus Industrials Bre on the weak side.
Panks-Hongkong & Shanghai Banks bave been dealt in up to 81.310 and close with buyers at $1,293. The sterling value is £141 (middle).
Marine and Fire Insurances-Unions continue in demand and shares have changed hands at $300 to $305. Cantons were sold at $750. Yangtazes have buyers at 30 and China Underwriters at #1.63. Both China Fires and Hongkong Fires are wanted at quotations.
Shipping Hongkong, Canton and Macro Steamboata are offering at $381. and could probably be obtained cheaper, Star Ferries were placed at $52), and close with buyers at $51. Douglas Steamships are still neglected and re main at 854 sellers. Tugs and Lighters) are weak at 84.75.
Refineries-China Sugars have fur- ther receded and can now by had at $58. Malabons are also offering and have sellers at $51."
Oils and Mining-Langkats are ruling.. strong in Shanghai. The "Combined" have buyers at. Tis 261 and the Singles" as T 12 Explorations can be placed at Tla. 3!. Kailan Mines have risen to 60/-.
Docks, Wharves and Godowns.-Hong- kong and Whampoa Docks have further wakened, having been sold down to 3119, but the market is slightly better. and there are now buyers at 8113. Kow Hoon Wharves have also dropped and after sales at 3101 have since bean done nt $101. Roth Shanghai Docks and New Engineerings are in demand. the former could probably be placed at Thx. 138 and the latter at Tls, 91-
