"DON'T DEPEND ON RELATIVES." LIANG SHIH-YI'S ADVICE AT A WEDDING.
Miss Yu, Chen Liang, daughter of Me Liang Shih Yi, ex-Premier of China, was married to Mr. C. K. Kuo, son of a leading Chinese merchant in Hong kong, at Peking on Sunday May 3rd. The bride was given away by her father, She was beautifully dressed in a charm ingly embroidered silk suit, which is the usual style of modern Chinese girls in a wedding ceremony, The bridegroom. says the correspondent of the Peking ani

Aside from the simplicity of the ceremony, the wedding was also ique for the reason that Mr. Ling Shit Yi gave a considered talk to the newly married couple in the presence of all the guests at the welding, bring- ing nu two points which are quit significant, and were highly appreciat In Frik by those who listened to him.
the first place, Mr. Linng-pointed out.. the young husband and wife, naide from the usual and natural duty of loving each other, should never entertain the idea of depending for a living upon cach other's family. This pointed re Ferenc was made with keen apprecia- tion of the fact that there were niways young men who, failing to make a living themselves and support their own fumi- lies, sought to Iran upon the wealth of The second their married relations. point which Mr. Liang made to the new- ly married couple was that the bride. groom should under no circumstances look to his father-in-law for politien! help. A HOLIDAY IN JAPAN." TRAVEL CONDITIONS NORMAL AGAIN,
Many people are under the impression that the disorganised condition of Japan, the resuls of the terrible catastrophe a September, 192, still prevails. This is, we are informed by Messrs. Thus, Cook Travel, San, Ltd, entirely erroneous. both by rail and road, has returned to the normal and the many beautiful; places in that picturesque country known to the older residents of the Colony are There is a again well worth visiting. good and frequent service of steamers from Hongkong to Japan and the jour ney can be made, in the matter of five, day or so. From "arrival in Kobe any part of the country may be visited in a very short time.
There are many residents who delay their holiday in Japan with the idea of passing through Kobe and Yokohana carte for Home, with the result that they do not see the country at all, either because of unexpected circumstances arising preventing them from travelling that way, or perhaps anxiety to reach home quickly destruys their good inten- tion. In any case Jupan deserves some- thing more than a cursory view from s port or perhaps a train between Kobe and Yokohama.
Although the laxury tax has been im- posed on so many foods, etc.. in Japan, it is interesting to note that at the general meeting of the members of the Japan Hotel Association, held at Seoul last September, it was unanimously de-, cided that the hotels should not raise their rates. Furthermore, it may be mentioned that the Government Rail. ways have not raised their tariff since 1920 and the sundry expenses incidental- to travel, such as motor car charges, ricksha fares. etc. have not been in creased.
For the resident in Hongkong and Chion contemplating holiday in Japan there is the further induce ment that the present favourable rate of! exchange between the Dollar and the Yen makes n holiday in Japan about 30 per cheaper than if the currencies

BAN ON MONEYLENDERS, "A Jew by nature is not a money- lender, hut a money-giver," said the Hov. Izrael Matuck in announcing that the Liberal Jewish Synagogue at Regents Park had decided to refuse to admit money-lenders, to membership of the con gargation. They would be allowed to worship in the Bynagogue, but would not be allowed to contribute to its sup port. Mr. Matuck explained that the de cision is not because money-lending. strengthens the prejudice against Jews, but because all Jewish low condemns money-lending.
