Within a little more than three months, mainly as a result of German competi tion, high costs of production, and crip-f pling taxation no fewer than 150 col- lieries in Wales Scotland, and the great fields of Durham and Northumberland have been closed, says a London paper.
The en they employed, numbering about 20,000, have been thrown on the dole, and the country's output of coal has been lessened by approximately 5,000,000 tons in these 3 months as com pared with 1924.
