The Right Hon. W. G. A. Ormsby- Gore (Parliamentary Under-Secretary for the Colonies), and Sir Robert Horne were the chief guests at the annual dinner of the British Overseas Banks Association at the Hyde Park Hotel on March 31st.
Mr. Charles H. Hewitt (general man- ager of the Colonial Bank), who pre sided, proposing the health of Mr. Ormsby-Gare, said the association Wha founded in 1917 and had a'membership of thirty-five member banks, with an aggregatepaid-up capital of £80,000,000.

Mr. Ormsby-Gore, Under-Secretary for the Colonies, responding to the toast,
said that it seemed to him that we in Great Britain were more and more realis ing that however important our foreign trade might be the real solution of many of our problems depended almost entirely upon the development of the British Em pire. In the work of development, the banks concerned in the Dominions. Colonial Protectorates, and mandated territories were bound to take an ever- increasing share of responsibility. It was not merely question of financial imports and exports. It was a question of increasing the total volume of produc tion throughout the Empire. (Cheers.)
