Some of the more modern wuong the important dressreakers have hit on an
note original idea for adding * elegance to the very short frocks which the new Spring styles have ushered in, for. it must be admitted, that, whereas ultra-short dresses may be smart and chic and youthful, they do not possess that peculiar quality of elegance which belong" to dresses. And, so, the new idea has been to add to short frocks a long straight pare that either hangs down until it terhes the floor, or else sweeps behind for a yard or more like a regular train. Sometimes these panels are merely an tension of the skirt, sometimes a loose width of material hanging loosely from the waist. Just such an added touch, and a simple dancing or "dinner frock hecomes a more formal toilette at once. PASCINATING BROLLIES.""

With a winter composed mostly of lugs umbrellas have been more or less of a back number these days, but in pre- paration for April and her traditional showers, the ambrella makers. launched some fascinating models. Tom Thumb variety is still being shown but the latest models are inclined to be longer and more slender. They are cer- tainly more elegant and, as important fyet women have discovered for them- Belves no doubt since first they took to tacking Tom Thumbs under their arm, far less inclined to get theraselves last than the inconspicuous models that have the rage for so long. A new note to be remarkel is the increasing return of the crooked handle. This, no doubt is the result also of a return to longer models, for the straight handle finished with a kaob or a quaint motif was all that the stumpy proportions of the Tom Thumb variety could reasonably support. Aether detail I have noticed is that many of the smartest models are trimmed with a handle and tip of lizard skin. such a medium only being used when the cover of the umbrella has been chosen in Lone of the many browngshades of silk that "match so admirably with the varied tones of the bizaril. A cown, toning from deep nigger to beige is going to be one of the favoured colours this Spring unbrellas tipped with lizard skin wi match quite electively. There are even lizard skin bags to match the novelting in umbrella bandles. Even more original are the umbrellas decorated in the same way, but with crocodils instead of lizn/| skin, and the bags that match them. Other models show handles made of rhino. ceras born and tortoiseshell, and others, mere intricate still made of polish d wood and heading the foitials of the Lovner inlaid in silver, gold, or a con
