The statutory meeting of the Asia Con and Briquetting Company, Limited, called in accordance with Section ss of the Com panies Ordinance, was held at the offices of Messrs. Douglas, Lapraik & Company, 20, Des Yeux Buad Central, yesterday st moon. Mr. M. B. Yung (Chairman) presided.

The CHAIRMAN · said; · Gentlemen,-As this report has beer in your hands, with your permission I will take it as, read. This is the best meoling of the Company and there is very little to report. I will Bay 'that the work on the site is already commenced and we expect to edatique it with all possible despatch. Negotiations are well along for the purchasing of plant. Only one or two details with regard to extra parts have not been settled yet. That is all there is to report at the pre- seat tine. If there are any questions to: be asked shall be pleased to answer them, I propose the adoption of the
report.
Mr. J. BEHAR seconded. There were no questions and the report was carried unanimously. There being no further business, this concluded the meeting.
Those present were: Mr. M. B. Fax (Chairman): Messrs. H. P. White, G. K. Hall Brutton, W. Paul Liang, and H. L Yung (Directors); Mr. J. Behar, and Mr. FF. Yung (Acting Secretary).
TAX BURDENS.
TRADERS' APPEAL TO MR. CHURCHILL.
Mr. Churchill, Chancellor of the Ex. chequer, received at the Treasury re cently a deputation from the Association of British Chambers of Commerce on the need for a reduction in income tax in the interests of industry. The deputation also urged a return to the penny post.
Mr. Stanley Machin, president of the association, in the course of his speech said:-
The present depressed state of trade, high cost of living, and the deplorable state of unemployment are largely due "to_the"excessive taxation.
When we see other nations taxed to
Jess than half the extent that we are, with no unemployment, competing with increased success in our home markets, and yet, as it seeds to us, not fully appreciating the responsibility of their indebtedness to their Allies, we con- sider we have just cause to complain.
